NBC Announces "Friends" Spin-off
David Schwimmer, Tony Danza set to star in "Who's the Ross?"
Los Angeles, CA – NBC announced today that after the last episode of “Friends”, David Schwimmer will star in a new sitcom as Ross Geller, his popular character from the show.  The show, titled “Who’s the Ross?”, will also star television veteran Tony Danza.

In the show, Schwimmer’s character will move from Manhattan to Brooklyn after the remaining “Friends” ostracize him for his lack of charisma.  After losing his job teaching at NYU for having an affair with a student, Schwimmer takes a job as a postal worker, and reluctantly takes on Danza, a middle-aged former boxer, as a roommate in a small Brooklyn apartment.

NBC vice-president of programming Charles Lucas says the show will appeal to viewers of all ages, and he hopes to insert “Who’s the Ross?” into the networks popular Thursday night line-up, once “Friends” finishes its popular run.

“Of course, ‘Who’s the Ross?’ will not begin production until ‘Friends’ is off the air.  Whether that is next season or the season following, (NBC) is extremely confident in the potent combination of Schwimmer and Danza”, said Lucas during a press conference.

To prove his point, Lucas showed clips of the two during screen tests for the show.  While the magnetism was obvious, it remains to be seen if “Friends” fans care enough about Schwimmer’s character to watch a show with him as the main character.

NBC, however, is hopeful that fans of “Friends” will follow Ross to a new show, in a new setting, and with a new roommate.  Lucas says that the network is also optimistic that Danza will lure an older demographic to the show.

“NBC feels that ‘Who’s the Ross’ will be a powerhouse.  David Schwimmer is a valuable cast member from one of the most successful shows of all-time, and everything Tony Danza touches turns to gold.  I mean, (Danza) has just got it all.  Our market research also shows that older women think he is hot, and he has a very loyal gay following.  NBC has little doubt that this show could be the next Odd Couple”.

Christina Applegate will also star in the show as Danza’s daughter, as well as a possible love interest for Schwimmer.  Wil Wheaton will round out the cast as Schwimmer’s quirky, somewhat unstable co-worker in the post office.
